A45 Coventry Road - Traffic Trial

Transport for West Midlands is working with Birmingham City Council to transform public transport in the region. Later this year, work will begin to deliver the second phase of Sprint bus rapid transit along the A45 Coventry Road.&nbsp;Sprint will provide bus priority measures, upgraded bus stops and a fleet of zero emission buses linking Solihull with Walsall along one continuous high quality bus route via the A45 Coventry Road, Birmingham city centre and A34 Walsall Road.&nbsp;The first phase has already been completed and we are now planning our Phase 2 proposals in Birmingham along Coventry Road.Phase Two includes changes to the road layout between Wagon Lane and Gilberstone Avenue (towards Birmingham) where one of the traffic lanes will be reallocated to a bus lane.&nbsp;We will be carrying out a trial to recreate the proposed Sprint layout for the A45 Coventry Road, closing one of the lanes off at this location using traffic management including barriers, cones and signs. This will allow us to better understand how the Sprint scheme will change traffic movements in the area and test the impact of the proposals.The trial will run for 2 weeks from 7th May to&nbsp;20th May 2024. We will be using a range of surveys to assess the impact on the road network before, during and after the trial has been completed. This will include traffic counts, queue surveys and journey time information from satellite navigation.&nbsp;Any questions requiring a response should be directed to our Customer Service Team.

We carried out an extensive consultation in Solihull in 2018/2019 with residents, businesses and community groups as part of the original design process for the Sprint project as a whole. We also held an engagement event with Solihull members in March 2022 on our Phase 2 proposals.&nbsp;Our approach for phase 2 has not been a repeat of the consultation carried out for the first phase, but to re-engage with those residents, businesses and stakeholders previously consulted, through locally held drop-in sessions.&nbsp; <img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1710926620/projects/6582deb56f406e21bfc9015e/c8cusxoo2ckhb840zkyo.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-rounded" alt="Two images side by side. We delivered 3 public engagement events, including 1 pop-up in Solihull town centre and 2 drop-in events held in prime locations along the Sprint route. Later in 2024 work will start in Solihull to deliver Sprint bus rapid transit along Lode Lane and Hobs Moat Road.&nbsp;Sprint will provide bus priority measures, upgraded bus stops and a fleet of zero emission buses linking Solihull with Walsall along one continuous high quality &nbsp;bus route via the A45 Coventry Road, Birmingham city centre and A34 Walsall Road.&nbsp;The first phase has already been completed and we are now planning our Phase 2 proposals in Solihull along Lode Lane and Hobs Moat RoadFollowing on from public consultation in 2019 and recent further public engagement in January 2024, we received feedback from local residents about the potential impact of the project at Hobs Moat Road along the approach to the Wheatsheaf junction.&nbsp;At this location, the scheme would change the road layout to provide a northbound bus lane between Melton Avenue and Old Lane Lane as well as providing a new pedestrian crossing south of Old Lane Lane.&nbsp;We will be carrying out an experiment to recreate the proposed Sprint layout for Hobs Moat Road using traffic management. This will include barriers, cones and signs. This will allow us to test the impact of proposals.The experiment will run for 4 weeks from 15 April 2024 until 10 May. Before, during and after the experiment, we will be using a range of surveys to assess the impact on the road network.
